50 years of serving the families of the military...

On August 16th of 2008 the Fort Worth Airpower Council celebrated it‘s 50th year of serving the families of the military in north Texas. It was done in true Texas style. Thanks to the work of former chairman, Harold Turney and the donation of the stage and dining area by Billy Bob’s of Texas, we were prepared for a great turnout.

And…we got it. By raising the price for members to attend to $25, we were able to invite all available military personnel to attend at a greatly reduced price. The turnout was outstanding, with many military attending, and some bringing their entire families.

Presentations were made to honor our founding members, concluding with a plaque presented to two of our founder’s (Frank Kent) Grandchildren. We were treated to a presentation of “Yesterday &Tomorrow’s NAS/JRB”, by Capt. T.D. Smyers, and an outline of this year’s upcoming SkyBall by Mike Snyder. The food was pure Texas, as you would expect, and the evening was topped off by music and dancing to the tunes of two Texas C&W bands. The “topper” was witnessing a fraternity style embrace between Capt Smyers and Colonel Pottinger, indicating all is well at NAS/JRB.
