Request for Emergency Assistance By Tammy Howes

On February 21st, the Foundation received an emergency request for assistance from the spouse of an active duty Army Sergeant. Due to an error in paperwork, this Sergeant did not receive his pay on February 15th. His Command told him that nothing could be done – he would just have to wait until he received his March 1st check. He and his wife were only requesting $200, for groceries and gas, to make it through the end of February. The FWAPF Board approved $500. I delivered the check to her the next morning, and when she saw the amount, she was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Foundation. With tears in her eyes, she asked, “Do we have to pay this back?” I assured her that she did not. She gave me a big hug before I left and thanked me several times. I wish you could all have seen the relief and gratitude in her eyes. It makes all you do as members worthwhile. Thank you for helping our military when they are in need.
