301st Deployment
On January 2, 2008, 43 members of the 301st deployed to Irag for six (6) months. These reservists will be guarding the perimeter of an airbase in Irag, outside the wires. This is no soft job and these people will definitely be in harms way. Retired BG Bobby Epperson requested help from the Fort Worth Aipower Foundation to purchase phone debit cards which would enable the reservists to call home from Irag. The request was for $25 phone cards but Mike Snyder, chairman of the Fort Worth Airpower Foundation, suggested $100 phone cards. The Foundation Board approved the request and 43 of the $100 phone debit cards were purchased and given to the troops shortly before they departed for Iraq. In addition, Mr. Kip Hyde, our member and CEO of Hawk Electronics, presented the families of the troops fifty (50) 100 minute phone cards which can be used to call from here to Iraq. Kip told the troops both he and his company would make additional arrangements for the families and the troops to stay in telephonic contact if needed. For anyone who has been away from home for an extended period knows, communications from home is the best morale booster in the world. Many thanks to retired BG Bobby Epperson, Fort Worth Airpower Foundation, Mr. Kip Hyde and Hawk Electronics. Our troops know they are not alone and not forgotten.
