The Fort Worth Airpower Council has extended its reach to help military families gathered at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, where hundreds of our brave troops are recovering from severe injuries. Airpower Council Members make multiple trips each year to BAMC to deliver one simple message to our heroes who spend countless hours in rehab recovering from severe burns, missing limbs and reconstructive surgery; “you are loved and your sacrifice for this country is not forgotten.” Funds raised by events have been used to provide iPods and portable DVD players to the recovering soldiers to help pass the time. For the family members who sacrifice to come to San Antonio to watch over their loved ones, the Council provides gift cards to area restaurants to help defray the costs of extended stays away from home. In the past year, the Council has been instrumental in bringing patients who are about to complete their rehab to Dallas/Fort Worth to participate in events such as a Cowboys game, the Armed Forces Bowl game and a NASCAR race. These events are special to the soldiers and help them as they begin to merge back into civilian life.

The Fort Worth Airpower Council is grateful for the broad-based support from many generous North Texas companies, corporations and patriotic individuals, who step forward and made an investment in the welfare of our military families. That generosity is recognition that the families left behind by their loved ones who go to protect our freedoms, also serve here at home. Without the knowledge that their families are supported, cared for and cared about, our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines can’t properly focus on the dangerous work they do and the vital mission they accomplish daily. By participating in this years Sky Ball event, we hope you will join our team to make NAS-JRB Fort Worth a better place for our military and their families; our neighbors who make such large sacrifices to serve our country and preserve the freedoms we all enjoy.
